Is Human Rights Day still significant in South Africa?

Gugulethu August: “It is saddening that our human rights are not being taken seriously, it has become ink on a paper but I will be celebrating it because of personal attachments I have for the day and what it means to me.”
Dineo Mashiloane: “It is very important for us to celebrate this day. People died for us, so we can enjoy our basic rights. I will be at work on the day but will make it a point to celebrate it.”
Buhle Mabuza: “Human rights mean the dignity and the protection of individual rights which is something we have seen decline of late. We are dealing with racism and lots of discrimination so for me, the day means being at home taking care of my grandmother.”
Isac Makguga: “It was the biggest single massacre of black people during the racist era of the National Party so it is very important for us especially black South Africans to commemorate March 21.”
Sbusiso Thwala: “On the day I will be doing my Zulu dance because it is a day for us to reminisce and remember our history in order to move our country forward.”
Thokozile Mabaso: “It is just unfortunate that our basic human rights are not being valued which makes it hard for people like myself to commemorate this remarkable day.”
Nkosikhona Cebekhulu: “No it is just another day therefore, I will be at home with my family.”
Thabo Molepo: “We are currently facing serious challenges as a country hence I will be spending my day in church as I feel we need to unite in prayer and ask the Lord to protect our country, women, and children.”
