Escaping your circumstances without drugs

“I want to help other people in my community, especially high school learners, to get out of drugs.”

Kwatsaduza – Phillip Mohlabeng dreams of a drug-free Kwatsaduza and aims to make it a reality through mentorship and music.

Mohlabeng, a former drug addict, says he got the idea to rid his community of drugs after returning from rehab and being assisted by a local business with funds to start his entertainment business.

“I want to help other people in my community, especially high school learners, to get out of drugs,” he says.

He plans to do this by visiting schools in the area with former drug addicts and celebrities who will speak to the learners about the dangers of drugs.

“I want to show local children that there is a better way out of their circumstances that does not involve drugs,” he explains.

“We are planning the first visit for when schools open for the second term and have spoken to Lefa-Ifa Secondary School and Kenneth Nkosi Secondary School as the first schools we will visit,” says Mohlabeng.

He says he will use his company, Bossy Entertainment, to mentor the learners in singing and music production.

“This will not only keep them busy, but will also open them up to the opportunity for a career in music,” he adds.

Mohlabeng says his partner organisation, Zaka Nation Health and Community Development, holds weekly meetings at the Springs Arena on Wednesdays from 5pm, where they meet with people with drug addictions to discuss how they can beat their addiction.
