KwaThema – Members of the ANC Women’s League in Ward 78 donated a bed and blankets to gogo Dorah Kabate (80) on Tuesday.

Kabate’s belongings were burnt down to ashes after her bedroom caught fire in January last year allegedly from a faulty electrical connection.

Kabate survived and was rushed to hospital to receive treatment for smoke inhalation.

Ward 78 Clr Zanele Nyakale says they felt the need to visit the family and check on her recovery.

“We wanted to identify their needs and how we can help gogo to make her life better.

“We have identified that even though their electricity has been restored by a private electrician, their meter box still needs to be fixed.

“We didn’t have this information but we will follow up on it because even now gogo is not safe in her home because of faulty electricity,” she explains.

Gogo says she is grateful for the donation.

“I am happy that the councillor didn’t forget about me and my needs even though months have passed on since the incident.

“All I need right now is for the councillor to help fix my electricity connection because the faulty meter box is in my bedroom,” she says.
