Aspiring artist from Duduza making a name in the music industry

He started rapping at the age of 11 and hasn’t looked back since.

Nineteen-year-old Anele Khonto from John Dube Village in Duduza is making a name for himself in the hip-hop music industry.

He started rapping at the age of 11 and hasn’t looked back since.

He is an independent artist who writes songs about daily struggles, mostly issues that affect women.

He wants to raise awareness and would like to bring about change in society.

“I do music for the people who have suffered abuse, women in our townships experiencing some harsh realities, and drug users,” says Anele.

Young hip-hop artist from Duduza wants to empower women through his music.

The up-and-coming artist released his new single titled End in January. His dream is to see himself sharing a stage with famous hip-hop artists. His music is influenced by the legendary rapper Eminem.

Speaking about the challenges faced by young artists, Anele says lack of support from the community and family can be demotivating and depressing.

“How is the world supposed to support you if your own community won’t even support you?” asks Anele.

Another problem is being undermined by music producers and parents who do not believe in their children or think that they can make a living out of producing music.

“They need support from the community in order to keep believing in themselves,” he says.

Encouraging other artists, Anele says they should embrace positive criticism and work on perfecting their craft.
