Duduza man arrested with counterfeit money

“Police cannot rule out the possibility of more arrests in the matter and are working hard to put an end to this ring of counterfeit cash.”

Duduza – A 37-year-old man was arrested for possession of R250 000 in counterfeit notes in Bluegum View Section on Monday.

This was an intelligence-driven operation which was a result of a long period of surveillance.

Duduza Police spokesperson Sgt Harry Manaka says the police pounced on the house where they recovered the cash that was stashed in a plastic bag.

“The man who was with his wife at the time could not give the police a satisfactory explanation when asked about the origin of the notes and he was arrested on the spot.

“Police cannot rule out the possibility of more arrests in the matter and are working hard to put an end to this ring of counterfeit cash.

“This is the biggest amount of counterfeit cash to be found and police are delighted that it has been removed from the streets,” Manaka says.

Manaka adds the case will be transferred to the SAPS Commercial Crime Investigating Unit.
