Ward 74 residents equipped in a workshop organised to help them with their title deed needs
KwaThema-The Councillor of Ward 74 Thulani Simelane organised a workshop to help the residents with their title deed questions.
The councillor invited the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform and ProBono.org.
Which is a non-profit organisation that helps people who earn less than R7 000 and cannot afford legal fees.

The organisation also helps residents to settle debts with the municipality, to solve matters of wills and deceased estates.
The organisation says when residents seek help from them, it is important to bring all relevant documentation.
Documentation such as a letter of authority from the Master of the High Court, title deeds, death certificates and a letter from the municipality.
The official documents will help in solving the legal cases.
The organisation works closely with attorneys who take the cases for free to try to help those who seek justice but cannot afford expensive legal fees.

Simelane says that most residents have a dilemma of living in houses registered under the names of deceased relatives.
Thus they cannot settle bills with the municipality leading to having their electricity blocked.
Simelane says that the emphasis of the workshop was also to help residents on issues
pertaining to how they can change a title deed to be registered under their names.
Jabu Maphomolo from the Deeds Office said they attended the workshop to educate the residents about the procedures of their office.
“Many residents are not informed of the Deeds Office procedures and the proper channels to follow in order to have their cases solved,” says Maphomolo.
