The help comes after the team won an award for best performing CPF award in the Ekurhuleni East Cluster in February hosted by the two institutions.

Part of the prize the team won laptop, printer and banners.

But when the officials visited their offices to hand over the prize, they couldn’t believe the state in which the members were forced to operate in.

Treasurer of KwaThema CPF, Mmasetshaba Makhubedu, says after the department saw the state of the offices they vowed to renovate them.

“We were using the old police offices and they didn’t have electricity or running water.

“We were forced to attend to cases before dark or we would be forced to work in the dark,” she says.

Mmasechaba explains their members are dedicated to helping the police to fight crime in the area.

“We now have lights, running water, signage and new furniture for our offices.

“We also received donation of cold drinks which we sold on the day to raise funds to open a bank account for the forum.

“We now need donations for refreshments, like tea and coffee in the victim empowerment centre.

“We also need uniform for the patrollers, and torches for when they work at night,” she says.
