One suspect arrested for Shoprite robbery

Tsakane – One out of 15 suspects who robbed Shoprite in Ratanda Mall has been arrested.

It is alleged the group managed to flee with an undisclosed amount of money, driving away in an Inyathi combi.

Tsakane police spokesperson Sergeant Lerato Mngomezulu says a security guard at the mall was shot and killed before the suspect came head to head with the police.

“Police received information that there was a robbery in session at the mall.

“On their way to the scene, the police were alerted by the bystanders about the direction the suspects took on foot.

“The police saw a group of men running and they followed. The suspects started shooting at the police.

“A Fidelity Security Group guard was shot in the upper body who was driving a Fidelity Security Group marked vehicle.

“A Vispol member in one of the police cars was hit by a round that penetrated the front passenger’s door and hit him in the left shoulder.

“The cluster Vispol Trio Task Team managed to arrest one of the suspects, who was in possession of a firearm during the search after the shooting,” she says.
