New mini park handed over to the elders

“We decided to hand over the park to the elders in the area to seek their blessings and encourage them to also to use it to exercise.”

KwaThema – The new mini park was officially handed over to the residents of Interland on Wednesday.

The park is aimed at accommodating children from the community to have a place to play at.

During the handover, over 150 elders in the area received blankets from a local contractor.

The project is part of the Lungile Mstshali Community Development Project which was launched in 2014 by the former mayor, Mondli Gungubele.

Each community is given R1-million to spend on developmental projects of their choice.

Ward 77 councillor, Johannes Sibeko, says they received R1-m from the municipality.

“We decided to use the funds to build a mini park because we identified that children in this neighbourhood don’t have a place to play.

“The facility is furnished with swings for the children, braai stands and chairs which family members can enjoy,” he says.

Sibeko says they are urging the residents to refrain from vandalising the facility.

“We want this facility to be a place where children can come and play with their family members.

“We decided to hand over the park to the elders in the area to seek their blessings and encourage them to also to use it to exercise.

“We are tired of seeing young people going to other areas to play,” he says.
