New mini park in KwaThema for the residents of Interland

R1-million has been set aside to build a mini park at Interland Section.

KwaThema – The park is aimed at accommodating children from the community to have a place to play.

The project is part of the Lungile Mtshali Community Development Project which was launched in 2014 by the former mayor Mondli Gungubele.

Each community is given R1-m to spend on developmental projects of their choice.

Ward 77 councillor, Johannes Sibeko, says they received R1-m from the municipality.

The facility is furnished with swings for the children, braai stands, chairs and exercise equipment which family members can enjoy.

“We decided to use the funds to build a mini park because we identified that children in this neighbourhood don’t have a place to play and we have received complaints from the residents about their children being forced to walk to neighbouring communities to play.

“We also noticed that the available facilities were not enough to accommodate the children and they are not family-orientated,” he says.

Sibeko says they absorbed 10 employees from the community and empowered small business people who were employed as sub-contractors.

“We are happy that through the project we were able to share skills and empower the community,” he says.
