Celebrity choreographer Somizi Mhlongo and award-winning comedienne Tumi Morake will host the annual 23rd South African Music Awards (Sama).
Organisers, the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA), said Sama 23, would be held at Sun City Superbowl in North West on May 27 and would be broadcast live on SABC1 at 8pm.
Mhlongo is a much-loved theatre and television veteran as well as a judge on Idols SA. He returns to the hosting duties as he did last year when he co-hosted with actress Thando Thabethe.
Morake is the reigning queen of South African comedy and a respected television host.
RiSA chief executive Nhlanhla Sibisi said: “Our team is hard at work putting together a ceremony befitting the stature of the SAMA awards. We have every faith in Somizi and Tumi that they will add that extra zing to the proceedings and leave us entertained.”
The list of Sama 23 nominees is dominated by new artists who released their debut or second projects in the past year. Leading nominees for Sama 23 include rappers Kwesta, Nasty C, Durban’s queen of gqom Babes Wodumo and songstress Amanda Black.
