The woman appeared in court on Wednesday facing charges of contravening the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act.

A 33-year-old alleged drug mule will have to wait another week before she can apply for bail in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court, the Directorate for Priority Crime (Hawks) said on Wednesday.

Lena de Waal appeared in court on Wednesday facing charges of contravening the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act.

Hawks spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu said she landed at OR International Airport on Sunday, where she had arrived from Sao Paulo in Brazil.

“The Hawks were following on information regarding a suspected drug mule who was reported to have boarded a flight from Sao Paulo, Brazil, the previous night,” said Mulamu.

“A routine check was conducted at the check-in points and authorities recovered 5kg of cocaine with an estimated value of R2 million concealed and wrapped in a foil inside the suspect’s luggage.”

The case has been postponed to April 25 for a formal bail application.
