Maintenance conducted due to plant experiencing problems (unplanned outages) was sustained at below 4 900MW.

While no load shedding is expected for Wednesday, Eskom has added that it is progressing well with the maintenance of its power generating plant as it supplies the country’s electricity needs.

At the beginning of the festive season Eskom said it intended to ramp up planned maintenance of between 6 000MW and 8 000MW over the December month. According to Eskom, this was done in this time frame to take advantage of the drop in the demand of electricity in an effort to further improve the performance and reliability of Eskom’s power generating units.

“Eskom was able to successfully conduct maintenance on 9 000MW of its plant at the peak of the maintenance that was planned over the December period,” said Eskom in a statement.

“Maintenance conducted due to plant experiencing problems (unplanned outages) was sustained at below 4 900MW, further illustrating the success of the maintenance festival.”

Eskom added that as business activities across the country start to trickle back on from this week, planned maintenance will also be reduced to accommodate the increasing demand in electricity.
