Suspects arrested near Colesberg with large amounts of ‘unexplained’ cash

The suspects were driving a white BMW with GP (Gauteng) registration number plates.

Police at Colesberg have arrested two men after they were found in possession of a suspected stolen car and a large amount of cash, Northern Cape police said on Saturday.

Swift police action and vigilance on Thursday led to the arrest of the two men after they were spotted in a suspected stolen car at an eatery outlet in Colesberg on the N1, the South African Police Service (SAPS) said in a statement posted on the Arrive Alive website.

The suspects were driving a white BMW with GP (Gauteng) registration number plates.

“Upon further investigation and searching the vehicle an undisclosed amount of cash was found hidden in a secret compartment inside the vehicle. The suspects could not give a satisfactory account for the money during questioning.

“The suspects are detained and the investigation is continuing to determine the source of the money,” the SAPS statement said.
