Victims of a vehicle that crashed into a wall on Main Reef Road in Crown Mines, south of Johannesburg on Sunday morning were left lying at the scene in their underwear after bystanders stripped them of their clothes, shoes and belongings.
Paramedics from ER24 and City of Johannesburg EMS arrived on the scene where they found a bakkie near a damaged wall of a building, several meters away from the road. It is believed that the bakkie collided with the pavement on the side of the road and crashed into the wall of the building.
They found the three critically injured patients lying near the damaged vehicle and a woman, believed to be in her thirties, was found with fatal injuries still trapped in the vehicle. It’s believed she was killed on impact.
While assessing the patients, paramedics noticed that the patients were lying in their underwear and that the woman in the car had no shoes.
“Upon enquiry they were informed that a group of bystanders arrived on the scene moments after the crash and apparently stole all their personal belongings, including their clothes and shoes,” said ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak.
“The injured also stated that the bystanders went through the damaged vehicle and took several items,” said Vermaak.
The injured men sustained several fractures and were stabilised on the scene before they were transported to a nearby hospital for further care. Fire fighters had to use rescue tools to free the woman from the wreckage.
The cause of the accident was not yet known and police were investigations, Vermaak said.
