Traffic police in Limpopo stopped the motorist driving at 151km/h in a 120km/h zone on the N11.

A 31-year-old man was arrested by Marble Hall police in Limpopo after he was found to be transporting illegal cigarettes, reports the Bosveld Review Online.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said traffic police were conducting point-duty inspections when they stopped the suspect for driving at a speed of 151km/h in a 120km/h zone on the N11 on the afternoon of September 22.

The traffic police searched the suspect’s vehicle and found illegal cigarettes that were marked “Chelsea”, valued at R500 000.

Police were summoned to arrest the man.

Ngoepe said the man would appear before the Groblersdal Magistrates’ Court on September 26 on charges of possession of illegal cigarettes and contravention of the Road Traffic Act.

Police investigations continue.
