The driver of the vehicle, whose birthday is apparently today, was left in a critical condition.

A man who had apparently just celebrated his birthday on Thursday was killed in an accident this morning on the N1 North near Olifantsfontein, in Gauteng.

According to Chitra Bodasing Harduth, spokesperson for ER24, he was the passenger in the car that was involved in the collision with a truck shortly before 5am, Kempton Express reported.

The driver of the vehicle was left in a critical condition. His own birthday is apparently today. It is understood the pair were trapped in the vehicle following the collision, Harduth said.

“Sadly, there was nothing that could be done for the passenger. He was declared dead by ER24 paramedics. The driver was treated and transported by paramedics to hospital for further medical care. The men are believed to be 32 years of age,” she said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said Netcare 911 paramedics worked alongside other services on scene.
