Free state police on Thursday said they were investigating a case of rape and house robbery that took place at Jerusalema Park, Thabong.
According to police spokesperson Mamello Mokhuoane, an 18-year-old woman had been raped during a house robbery at about 7pm on Friday.
“The victim was at her home preparing supper for her family when she heard someone knocking at the kitchen door,” Mokhuoane said.
“According to the victim she heard the voice of one of their tenants who was renting an outside room in their backyard. She opened the door and saw that the tenants’ hands were tied up with a belt and a T-shirt. The victim attempted to close the door when four unknown men allegedly pushed the door open and forced their way into the house.”
The men started assaulting the woman and her mother while demanding money and cellphones. The number of victims increased when the brother of the woman came to check on what was happening and the three of them (mother, tenant and the brother) were tied up with extension cords.
It is alleged that the 18-year-old woman was taken to another bedroom, where she was raped by one of the suspects.
When the father of the victim arrived at the house, the suspects took him to the main bedroom and the four suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash, cellphones, laptops and other electric appliances.
In the meantime, the victim managed to untie herself and asked the neighbours for assistance.
“The cellphone of one of the suspects was recovered at the scene. The rape victim identified in one of the pictures on the cellphone of the suspect that had raped her. However, the picture cannot be issued for publication due to the advanced stage of the investigation,” said Mokhuoane.
