A 27-year-old man is expected to appear at the Witbank Magistrates’ Court, in Mpumalanga, after he allegedly killed and buried his mother in a shallow grave.

Information at police’s disposal reveals that Sandile Nhlapho attacked and killed his 65-year-old mother Florah Masuku at their home at Hlalanikahle Extension 3, in Vosman, Witbank News reported.

He then buried her body in a shallow grave inside a rondavel in their yard.

It all emerged after he allegedly confessed to his crime on Sunday, September 18, to a member of the local Community Policing Forum (CPF), who in turn alerted the police.

A probe was immediately instituted and all role-players were summoned to the scene, including forensic experts. They then dug in the rondavel and retrieved the body. The suspect was then nabbed and charged with murder.

Sister to the deceased Busisiwe Masuku said the family was devastated and shocked about what happened.

“It is very sad what happened to my sister, and we still have a lot of unanswered questions of what really happened leading to her death,” said Masuku.

The family were still busy with funeral arrangements.

After appearing in court on Wednesday, Nhlapho has been remanded in custody and will appear again on Tuesday, September 27, pending a formal bail application.
