A small stray dog is recovering after it was beaten with sticks by a group of construction workers in Harding, KwaZulu-Natal.
A passerby saved the life of a small dog that was brutally attacked on Tuesday, South Coast Herald reported.
The witness heard the terrified dog yelping in pain and went to investigate.
The passerby, who did not want to be identified, saw what was happening and called the Lower South Coast SPCA.
SPCA officials and police responded immediately.
A civil case under the Animal Protection Act was opened against the men.
Trainee inspector Liesl Bolton said they found the stray covered in cement with a bloody mouth and visible signs of injury all over its body.
“There was even blood splatters on the wall, a pool of blood on the floor and telltale stains on sticks and tools,” she said.
“The poor animal was so petrified when we approached, that she urinated. I just showered her with affection.”
She is now receiving lots of TLC at the SPCA and, once fully recovered, will be put up for adoption.
