Reigning Absa Premiership top goal scorer, Collins Mbesuma believes he can break the record he set over ten years ago when he scored 35 goals while in the colours of Kaizer Chiefs in the 2004/5 season.

Mbesuma, who scored 14 league goals for the now defunct Mpumalanga Black Aces last season, opened his account with a stylish back heel in his new team, Highlands Park’s 2-1 win over Baroka FC on Tuesday night.

“As long as I am still playing, I can still break that record,” said Mbesuma after the match. I may even do that this season. We still have so many games to go. What can stop me? I want to break that record,” he added.

He admitted though that it would take serious hard work for him to repeat that feat. “I will have to fight to break it. I am looking to be the top scorer again this season, as I am looking to help this team stabilise their position in this league,” he said.
