Maritzburg United coach Ernst Middendorp says he doesn’t want to go through the same road as he did last season after surviving the relegation chop on the last fixture of the season.
The Maritzburg coach said this after the teams’ goalless draw with Mamelodi Sundowns at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday, where they had plenty of chances to score, but poor decision-making inside the box let them down.
“I don’t want to have the same mercy season again with the club; that is not my standard. I want to do it right. We have built the team with a lot of personality and quality. I think we can do better than we did today,” Middendorp told SuperSport.
Middendorp also pointed out there was no coalition in the team hence they could not get the back of net with the players looking for individual glory.
“We had more potential in our build up at some moments. There were too many silly mistakes, we can do so much better. Though it’s not acceptable, it happens, we are all human beings, it is fine, but if you have your teammate in a better position in the final box just pass him the ball and let him do the job.”
Maritzburg have now recorded one win and one draw in their first two games. They currently on position five in the league table with four points.
The German coach will be hoping his side does much better in their next league match at home with SuperSport United next Wednesday.
