Two suspects, believed to be boyfriend and girlfriend, have been arrested for stealing meat at Shoprite Checkers in Norkem Mall, Kempton Park, on the East Rand.

Norkem Park SAPS spokesperson Captain Lesibana Molokomme said the two, aged 41 and 42, entered the store shortly before 2pm on Monday, Kempton Express reported.

They took a shopping basket and placed a packet of Simba chips and butter into it.

It is alleged they were then spotted walking to the meat section, where the man took beef valued at R278.06 and put it into his girlfriend’s handbag, said Molokomme.

“The two left the basket and went straight to the exit. Security asked to search them, and they were found them in possession of the meat.”

The two were subsequently arrested.
