The driver of a Tata truck ran away after he made an illegal U-turn on the corner of Palm Avenue and Monument Road and collided with a Mercedes Vito minibus in Kempton Park, on Gauteng’s East Rand.

According to Simon Railo, the driver of the Vito, he and his colleague, Willy Chauke, were travelling down Monument Road in the right lane to make a delivery at a Glen Marais pharmacy. The Tata stood at the red light in the left lane, Kempton Express reported.

“As we approached, the light turned green. We were still on speed when the driver of the Tata decided he wanted to make a U-turn from the left lane and drove right in front of us, causing our vehicles to collide,” said Railo.

Soon after the impact the driver and passenger of the Tata decided to flee the scene towards Highveld Road. The driver got away, but the passenger fell by the roadside, with injuries to his face and eyes.

He sustained minor lacerations to both his eyebrows and was attended to by HWIBIDU ambulance services. No one else sustained any injuries.

“Everything happened so fast. I am glad we were not injured. We just got a very big fright,” said Railo.
