Abandoned ‘parking lot’ baby discharged from hospital

The baby was found behind the rear wheel of a parked car at a shopping centre last week.

The week-old baby who was found behind the rear tyre of a parked car in the parking lot of Musgrave Centre last Tuesday evening is finally out of hospital, reports the Berea Mail.

The baby had been kept in hospital for observation.

Captain Bonisiwe Khanyile, head of social crime prevention at Berea police, said the baby was discharged from hospital on Monday and due process was followed. As in the case of abandonment, the baby was taken to court before being put in a place of safety.

A police source confirmed the centre had no video footage available for viewing.

Berea detectives are still investigating.
