Chiefs lost 2-1 to Wits at the Bidvest Stadium on Tuesday.
Elias Pelembe scored the first goal for the Clever Boys in the 34th minute before captain Thulani Hlatswayo doubled the lead in the 65th minute.
Lorenzo Gordinho got Amakhosi’s only goal of the match in the last nine minutes of the game to give Steve Komphela’s charges a bit of hope to level the scores by full-time, but it was not to be for the visiting side.
“The problem is that the coach prepared us very well, but we just couldn’t follow the instructions. I don’t know what happened. We came here with a plan, but we just couldn’t execute it. Without making any excuses, they were good in the air, they beat us with the height because that is the Wits game. They were playing with a lot of crosses, and we just couldn’t deal with them,” Khune explained.
“In football, you have to deal with all kinds of play, we could have dealt with them in the best manner, but it is a learning curve for us. We will host them at FNB in the next round, and they will see a different Kaizer Chiefs.”
Going into the next game, Khune said they would have to turn the tables around when they meet Cape Town City in the quarterfinals of the MTN8 at Cape Town Stadium on Friday.
“We have another game on Friday where we need to turn the tables and make sure we go through to the next round of the MTN8.”
