Van Heerden joined Chippa this season after spending last season in the National First Division with AmaZulu. And he slotted in well immediately into Dan Malesela’s side, producing a late goalline clearance to preserve his side’s lead.
“It was a good start for us in the league and important to get off in the right way and I think it was really good considering it was my first game back in the PSL (Premiership) for a year,” said the 28 year-old left back on Wednesday.
Chippa did brilliantly to finish in the top eight last season and Van Heerden says there is a great mood in the camp.
“There is a good spirit in the club and a lot of positivity around the way we finished last season, but there is also room for improvement,” he said.
Chippa’s back four against Ea Lla Koto had a look of new and old about it, with James Okwuosa and Diamond Thopola regulars from last season, but Van Heerden and Bongani Kama new to the side.
“At the back there are only two regulars from last season, but we already formed a partnership and relationship during the pre-season,” added Van Heerden.
Chippa will next play Platinum Stars in Phokeng in the MTN8 quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon.
“I think they (Stars) have made that stadium their own and it will be a tough encounter, but we are up for the task,” said Van Heerden.
