Abathembu King Dalindyebo has not been granted permission by prison authorities to attend the funeral of one of his wives, Queen Nolitha Dalindyebo.

Dalindyebo will have to mourn his wife alone and in the confines of a prison cell despite wanting “badly to bury the mother of his children”, the royal family spokesperson, Chief Thandisizwe Mtirara, said.

This after correctional services in the Eastern Cape refused to give him clearance to attend his wife’s funeral. She died earlier this month on August 10.

The attention would shift to him and disrupt the proceeding and concentration on the funeral itself.

According to The Daily Dispatch, reasons to not allow Dalindyebo to attend the funeral had not been provided by correctional services.

Two spokespersons for the royal family gave their views on the situation, with one mentioning that Dalindyebo’s wife would be buried at her own home due to instability within the family.

“The attention would shift to him and disrupt the proceeding and concentration on the funeral itself,” said Mthunzi Ngonyama about the king missing the funeral

He added this was because Dalindyebo would have to be escorted by police and would be in handcuffs.
