A text message requesting a R250 administration fee has been sent to several licence holders.

The Western Cape Liquor Authority (WCLA) has issued a stern warning about a Liquor licence scam doing rounds in the  province.

This after the WCLA received numerous telephone calls from liquor licence holders inquiring about a text message requesting R250 administration fee, George Herald reported.

The SMS further states that in order to avoid penalties or suspension of their liquor license, they should pay the money before September 1.

This SMS was, however, not distributed by the Western Cape Liquor Authority.

The WCLA would like to only remind the valid liquor licence holders of the annual renewal period that starts on October 1 and ends on December 31.
