The motorist was fined R18 000 by the Scottburgh Magistrates’ Court.

A motorist will have to dig deep to pay the R18 000 fine imposed on him by the Scottburgh Magistrates’ Court on KwaZulu-Natal’s South Coast.

Ivan Botha was trapped while travelling at 220km/h on the N2 at Park Rynie on August 14, the South Coast Herald reports. The legal speed limit is 120km/h.

KZN Transport, Community Safety and Liaison MEC Mxolisi Kaunda has commended the department’s road traffic inspectorate team, saying: “It is high time that all road users start taking our call for road safety seriously and realise that it’s about life and death.”
