Landlord due in court for ‘murdering’ tenant

When the landlord decided to cut off the electricity, the tenant got angry and allegedly attacked him.

A 37-year-old landlord from Rietvallei in Krugersdorp, on the West Rand, is expected to appear in court for allegedly murdering his 29-year-old tenant on the weekend .

It is alleged an argument broke out between the landlord and his tenant inside their at about 11pm on Sunday, Krugersdorp News reported.

When police arrived on the scene, they found the landlord with a knife he apparently used to stab the victim.

“The landlord told the police that an argument ensued after the tenant refused him the use of the electricity. The suspect alleged that his tenant had bought electricity, but would not allow him to use it,” Kagiso police spokesperson Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya said.

When the landlord decided to cut off the electricity, the tenant got angry and allegedly attacked him.

The tenant sustained a stab wound to the chest and was certified dead on the scene by paramedics.

The landlord was arrested and has been detained at the Kagiso Police Station, where a case docket of murder has been opened.

The suspect is due to appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court during this week.
