Msimanga says the new DA-led administration in the capital city is aware of who the culprits behind the ‘land grabs’ are.

The DA’s newly-elected mayor in Tshwane, Solly Msimanga, has accused ANC members of illegally recruiting people to occupy vacant municipal land.

According to SABC reporter Sihle Nkhoma, residents of Nelmapius, near Mamelodi, were reportedly occupying RDP houses built for the poor at the weekend, while community members near Ga-Rankuwa also occupied vacant land.

Msimanga told the broadcaster the new DA-led administration is aware of who the culprits behind the land grabs are.

“We are very much aware there is members of the ANC that are busy going around allocating stands, giving houses to people who are not actually the rightful beneficiaries of these houses in Mamelodi and the surrounding areas,’’ Msimanga said.

THe ANC spokesperson in the Tshwane region, Tebogo Jwala, dismissed the claims, saying the party would consider taking legal action if the DA continued to “incriminate’’ its name in public.

“To level such allegations against us then we have to take a course, a legal route, if they continue with this threat of incriminating our name in public, so DA must talk to its ally EFF [Economic Freedom Fighters] because we have seen also that DA members have become decayed. They’re disrupting public meetings which have been conducted and called by some of our councillors in the townships,’’ Jwala said.
