The EFF leader says the ‘onslaught was necessary’.

Leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Julius Malema is celebrating what he calls the defeat of kleptocracy.

This after the new kids on the block EFF voted for the DA in key metros Tshwane, Nelson Mandela Bay and Johannesburg, ousting the ANC, who have held these metros since the dawn of democracy. The EFF refused to go into coalition with “a party of white racists”, the DA, but voted for them anyway so they could oust what they called the”arrogant” ANC.

The EFF chose the DA over us it is within their right to do so. So we’ve got to move on. We have lost Joburg to a coalition led by DA

On Thursday, the DA won the Johannesburg council, which saw businessman Herman Mashaba elected mayor of the richest city in the country. This dealt a serious blow to outgoing mayor Parks Tau, who many congratulated for having done good work as mayor. However, this, the EFF said, was collective punishment for the ANC’s national executive committee, which they said failed to remove the “corrupt” and “constitution breaking” President Jacob Zuma.

Malema took to Twitter to celebrate the end of the “kliptocratic” rule of the oldest liberation movement in Africa.

Minister of Sport and Recreation Fikile Mbalula has also aired his views on the outcome of the Johannesburg mayoral elections. He said it was within the EFF’s right to choose who to vote for in the council. The flamboyant minister said this was no time to point fingers as the ANC, but to introspect on what could have gone wrong within the movement.

“Any self respecting party will not be in denial but to examine were did we go wrong & REGROUP.We can’t blame it on our opponents,” said Mbalula.

“DA got an early Christmas present from EFF. Am sure Herman Mashaba doesn’t believe it that he the mayor. THIS IS A JACKPOT!” he also wrote.

“The EFF chose the DA over us it is within their right to do so. So we’ve got to move on. We have lost Joburg to a coalition led by DA. We can’t blame it on anyone we have a chance in the future…”

Even so, some were quick to point out to him that “supporting your corrupt leader is where you went wrong, if only you had listened to the opposition. But naaah Awunavalo.”
