The umpires will make another inspection at 2pm.

There had been considerable drying of the Sahara Stadium Kingsmead outfield, but the likelihood of any play on the fourth day of the first Test between South Africa and New Zealand on Monday remained at no more than 50 percent as an early lunch was taken in Durban.

A stiff southwesterly wind had aided the drying process, but it had also brought heavy cloud cover, denying the saturated ground the sunshine it so desperately needed as well.

The umpires will make another inspection at 2pm.

New Zealand will resume their first innings struggling on 15 for two, in reply to South Africa’s first innings of 263 all out.
