National spokesperson of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Mbuyiseni Ndlozi has slated those who are accusing the party of “selling” their votes.
Following the results of the 2016 local government elections where no party won an outright majority, the EFF refused to go into coalition with what they call “a racist party”, the DA, but they nevertheless decided to vote for the DA so they could unseat the ANC. During interviews last week, EFF leader Julius Malema confirmed that “ideologically speaking”, there was no difference between the ANC and the DA, but the DA was “a better devil”.
Now their alleged voters have accused the EFF on Twitter of selling their votes to the DA, which now controls the hung metros Tshwane, Nelson Mandela Bay and Johannesburg, which were previously firmly in the grip of the ANC.
Ndlozi, however, has responded that the criticism of the EFF must be coming primarily from the ANC pretending to speak for EFF supporters. He fired back with: “People who have been selling out for 22yrs, provincially & nationally say to us we are selling out for just removing them in 2 metros
“ANC members, who are continuing to protect the kleptomaniac Zuma & refused to give land are all over tweeter [sic] claiming EFF sold out
‘Arrest wanted criminal’
Meanwhile, councillors belonging to the EFF caused a stir in the Johannesburg council when they called for ANC member of the mayoral committee Dan Bovu to arrested.
Bovu, whom the EFF calls “a wanted criminal”, is accused of trying to bribe EFF councillors over the weekend to the tune of R500 000 so they would vote for the ANC during the election of the mayor of Johannesburg.
“Dan Bovu has been calling our councillors, offering them money to the value of R500 000 in exchange for them to vote with the ANC during the elections of the Johannesburg City Council tomorrow,” said the EFF.
The councillors said they had opened a case of corruption and bribery against Bovu at the Edwarado Park and Brixton police stations. On Sunday, Bovu denied all these allegations, and threatened to sue the EFF for defamation.
