Shakes Mashaba has named several of South Africa’s Rio 2016 stars in his Bafana Bafana squad to play a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mauritania and the Nelson Mandela Challenge against Egypt early next month.

Abbubaker Mobara, Maphosa Modiba, Deolin Mekoa and Gift Motupa were all seemingly rewarded for their performances in Brazil with a place in the senior national team.

“Gift played for Bafana in the Cosafa Cup, Mobara also played there, this is not for the first time they are coming into this,” said Mashaba on Friday.

“You might say we are rewarding them for their performance there (in Brazil), but we have been earmarking them for a long time.”

South Africa, already out of the running in Afcon 2017 qualifying, will play Mauritania on September 2 at Mbombela Stadium, before facing Egypt at Orlando Stadium on September 6. Both games kick off at 7.05pm.
