The entire left-hand side of the taxi was ripped open, paramedics say.

Two women were killed in a head-on collision between a minibus taxi and a truck in Eston, in KwaZulu-Natal, on Thursday.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said the accident happened on the R603, the main road between Camperdown and Kingsburgh on the coast.

‎“Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the roadway littered with accident debris and the twisted frames of the vehicles.”

He said that initially only one person had died, but one of the critically injured women went into cardiac arrest and died despite the best efforts of paramedics.

Three others were critically injured and five sustained minor injuries.

Botha said that the injured were taken to hospitals in Pietermaritzburg.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring‎ said the entire left-hand side of the taxi had been ripped open.
