Benoni man in court for wife and son’s murder

The man is also accused of injuring his 18-month-old daughter by hitting her against a wall.

A man accused of shooting and killing his wife (35) and son (9), before injuring his 18-month-old daughter in Mogoba in Benoni, appeared in the Benoni Magistrates’ Court yesterday, reports the  Benoni City Times.

The man reportedly also tried to shoot his 13-year-old son who managed to escape from the house.

The incident is alleged to have taken place on the morning of August 15, and a case of two counts of murder and attempted murder was opened at the Putfontein Police Station.

The accused will reappear in court on August 24.

The injured his 18-month-old daughter is in a critical condition and is undergoing treatment at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.

“After witnessing his father shooting his mother, the son rushed outside to call for help,” said Benoni Central Cluster spokesperson Captain Nomsa Sekele.

Sekele said the father allegedly ran after the son and tried to shoot him, but the son managed to escape.

“He then went back to the house and hit his daughter against the wall,” Sekele added.

Sekele also added that the man later allegedly tried to shoot himself but did not succeed.

According to Sekele, the firearm used in the murders is a licensed firearm belonging to the suspect.

The motive for the killing is unknown and the police are investigating.
