The death toll from a fire that broke out at the Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve near Heidelberg has risen to seven, Gauteng department of agriculture and rural development said on Wednesday.
The fire broke out last week Monday and trapped grass cutters who were working in the nature reserve.
According to the department the fire started at the wagon ranch farm and moved to the nature reserve due to strong winds.
Gauteng MEC for Economic, Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development Lebogang Maile sent condolences to family of the deceased.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with all the affected families during this difficult time. We wish those that are still in hospital a speedy recovery,” said Maile.
Only two people who were affected by the fire are still in hospital.
