Bystanders allege old oil may be burning, but it remains unclear as to what caused the fire.

Mossel Bay emergency services in Western Cape are battling the fire that burned outside Petro SA.

The group communications manager of PetroSA, Thabo Mabaso, confirmed the dark pile of smoke visible over the plant originated outside the boundaries this afternoon, presumably at the landfill site, Mosselbay Advertiser reported.

“PetroSA can confirm nobody was hurt in the fire that is raging outside the perimeters of the PetroSA plant,” Mabaso said.

According to bystanders, it is presumed that old oil may be burning.

However, it remains unclear as to what caused the fire.
