According to a report, the EFF will not partner with the ruling party or the opposition to form a majority in hung councils.

Voting is based on policy issues and not on who the next mayor will be, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has decided.

TimesLive reports that a trusted source who attended the EFF’s meeting to decide on coalition governments on Monday revealed they would not partner with the DA or the ANC.

“We will vote on issues‚ but not on who gets what position or from which party a mayor must come from. We do not have a mandate from our people to govern.

After lengthy discussions and negotiations the EFF decided that they will abstain from voting. They claimed that they respected the fact that voters did not give them a mandate to govern.

“The last option left for the ANC and DA is to partner with smaller parties‚” said the source.

There are five key metros in which the DA and ANC do not have an outright majority. For details, see the map below.
