In the midst of all the coalition talk and heated politics, politicians are still just getting on with their lives. EFF leader Julius Malema married his long-time sweetheart, Mantwa, at the end of 2014 and now it seems the couple is about to have their first child together.
Malema has a 12-year-old son, Ratanang, from a previous relationship.
City Press’ entertainment and celebs writer Ntombizodwa Makhoba tends to notice things the political analysts don’t, and even asks the question in her article of whether some politicians are not in fact closer to celebs. That may well be true for Malema, who people come to see whether they are convinced by his politics or not. His fame, notoriety/charisma is draw card enough.
Makhoba says she noticed “a tell-tale baby bump sported by his wife”, 26-year-old Mantwa, when they went to cast their votes in Seshego, Limpopo, on August 3.
When she called Malema to ask him about the speculation around the pregnancy, he reportedly told her that he wasn’t a celebrity and it isn’t OK to discuss these things in his Sepedi culture.
The couple had a grand wedding with blue diamonds, air-conditioned marquees, tight security, helicopter arrivals and two parties.
Malema has credited the support of his wife for his much-talked about healthier lifestyle that has allowed him to lose weight and look fitter and happier.
He and other party heavyweights are currently in intense discussions about who they will go into a coalition with in various hung municipalities countrywide. They announced on Monday night that the decision would be made public on Wednesday.
