Venezuelan at OR Tambo busted with cocaine worth R2m

The cocaine, weighing 8kg, was found stuffed in the cigar tubes in the woman’s luggage.

The South African Revenue Service (Sars) said in a statement on Monday that a Venezuelan woman is in police custody for allegedly trying to smuggle R2 million worth of cocaine hidden in Cuban cigar tubes into South Africa via OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.

“The female travelling from Brazil was stopped and searched,” Sars said.

The cocaine, weighing 8kg, was found stuffed in the cigar tubes in the woman’s luggage.

The woman was handed over into police custody and is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrates’ court on Tuessday.
