At 72, Stofile died at his home in Alice, in the Eastern Cape.
He was also once the premier of the province. Stofile served as the ANC’s treasurer-general from 1995 to 1997 and was premier from 1997 to 2004. He was appointed the minister of sports and recreation until 2010.
