The man apparently lost control of the car and crashed into a large electricity box on the side of the road.

A man, believed to be in his 20s, was critically injured when his car overturned on Paul Kruger Avenue in Universitas, Bloemfontein, early on Saturday morning, Free State paramedics said.

“An ER24 paramedic on his way to work came across the wrecked vehicle and found the man lying a few metres away from it, ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said.

It was believed that he was ejected from the car. He was in a critical condition. Paramedics initiated advanced life support interventions and he was transported to Pelonomi Hospital for further care.

The exact cause of the accident was unknown, but it was understood that the man lost control of the car and crashed into a large electricity box on the side of the road, Vermaak said.
