A 27-year-old man was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for threatening and raping a 19-year-old woman recently, Chatsworth Rising Sun reports.
Mondli Polotsi Nxumalo was convicted as the country commemorates National Women’s Month. It is believed that the incident occurred when the victim left her friend’s house. As she was walking, she met the accused, who then forcefully pulled the victim. He threatened her with a firearm and bush knife.
The woman tried to scream for help and the accused threatened to kill her. He then raped her several times.
The traumatised victim reported the incident to her aunt who then informed the police. Captain Nqobile Gwala of the police services said that the matter was transferred to the local FCS unit for further investigation.
The suspect was subsequently arrested and was kept in custody until his conviction.
KZN provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the FCS unit and said: “We will always make sure that criminals who prey on vulnerable women and children are kept behind bars.”
