Nestlé SA has said that the message circulating from Nestlé SA recalling the banana baby food products “because it may contain glass” is a hoax.

Nestlé SA has on Monday said that the message circulating on WhatsApp from Nestlé SA recalling its banana baby food products “because it may contain glass” is a hoax.

Nestlé SA said it was aware of the recent messages that were being circulated asking consumers to return the products expiring in 2017.

“We would like to advise the public that this is not true as Nestlé South Africa has not issued a recall of any product. Furthermore, Nestlé South Africa does not package any of its baby food products in glass packaging,” spokesperson Motshidisi Mokwena said in a statement.

“This is an erroneous message that has been circulating since 2011 following a precautionary recall of one batch of a specific product in France in 2011. Since then, the message keeps resurfacing with adjustments in the message about the brand name and the expiry date.”

Mokwena said the safety and quality of the Nestlé products was the company’s top priority.

“We would like to assure all consumers that our products are safe for consumption,” Mokwena said.
