Lions name Currie Cup co-captains

The side taking on the Pumas on Saturday is a blend of seniors and young stalwarts who performed well in the Currie Cup qualifying round.

The Lions on Thursday named co-captains in scrumhalf Ross Cronje and centre Howard Mnisi for their Currie Cup campaign, starting with their opener against the Pumas at Ellis Park on Saturday.

Nine seniors are away on Springbok duty including regular skippers Warren Whiteley and Jaco Kriel, while a few seniors will have a well-deserved rest after the Super Rugby final in Wellington last weekend.

The side taking on the Pumas is a blend of seniors and young stalwarts who performed well in the Currie Cup qualifying round.

Some of the players being rested include fullback Andries Coetzee, wing Courtnall Skosan, centre Rohan Janse van Rensburg, prop Dylan Smit and lock Andries Ferreira.
