A grade 11 pupil has appeared at the Kriel Magistrates’ Court after stabbing another pupil in Rietspruit, Witbank in Mpumalanga.
This follows after a fight that erupted between the two pupils, leaving the other dead, on Friday while they were waiting for a bus to go home after school, Witbank News reported.
As the fight continued between two groups, the Grade 11 pupil intervened. He grabbed a knife on the ground and stabbed the pupil who was standing behind him. The pupil who was stabbed was rushed to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
“I am surprised at what he did, the two went to the same primary. I know him to be someone who is friendly. I do not know what could have led to this,” said an anonymous source who knew the suspect.
Reitspruit’s community leader Joseph Nzimande was shocked and extremely bothered by the incident.
“I am very concerned about this. Different departments must come together so we can find a way forward for both families,” said Nzimande.
The case has been postponed to August 24 awaiting a decision from the Director of Public Prosecution. The pupil remains in the care of his mother.
