Last week’s local government election results confirmed the will of the people, Gauteng premier David Makhura said on Thursday. He said the results had been accepted by the people.
“As you know, four municipalities are hung councils and this means parties need to form coalitions, and I hope all parties will put the interests of the people first while they engage.
“Local government is an important sphere of government and I want to assure Gauteng residents that the provincial government will continue to exercise its constitutional obligation of delivering services to the people,” Makhura said.
The hung municipalities include Tshwane, Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, and Mogale City. Makhura said his government would continue with its intirisano programme, which seeked to address service delivery issues. He said by August 20, all municipalities would be in place so that the service delivery work can continue unhindered.
